RFID and Football

Irfan Setiaputra recently wrote on his blog regarding Sport "Business and Recreation" (in Bahasa).

Just some comment on my side, that in term of technology we could do more than simply RFID for ticketing.

Technology wise, we could implant RFID chips inside the ball, and in every person in the game (especially the player). When this happens, then we could capture every single movement of the ball and player, and have it analyzed later.

So if we are really concern about Indonesia football (soccer) quality, and really want to be the first winner in the next Sea Games, we may need to think to start using this technology as it is available now.

Well, now we're talking technology. RFID generates a LOT of event data, and it consumes a lot of bandwidth. Good thing is that Cisco embed RFID middleware inside AON module, so the bandwidth coming out from the Cisco router will be minimal. It also means that every single thing (including ball and the player) will be part of the Internetworking World !! (just a wild dream, that someday later we could telnet to the ball that is flying to the goal keeper, and control its flying, to make better chance of extraordinary goal)...... :-P

I heard UEFA will implement this method soon.
